The recent memoir “Hear Me” was an exploration into a woman’s childhood education and upbringing, and how it influenced her choice to unconventionally educate her own children. It was a joy to work with Betsy Bergquist on this heartfelt life story. Cover images went down several paths before we settled on using an image from Betsy’s own childhood, her 5-year-old self holding a bird just released from a cage. The cover image is a metaphor for Betsy’s own feelings of her early education, and her rise above it. The diamond pattern on the front echoes the diamond window in the background and the cage-like grids offer pattern and texture.
I never tire of working on life stories, each person’s path is so unique and valuable!
